Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy has charged a 16‑year‑old boy from Detroit in connection with an armed robbery and shooting involving an 18‑year‑old victim near Wayne State University.
Authorities say the incident occurred on January 27 at approximately 8:15 p.m. inside an apartment building on or near the Wayne State campus. Investigators allege the teen physically assaulted the victim before pulling out a handgun and firing it during the confrontation.
Police say the suspect then robbed the victim of a necklace and fled the scene. After an investigation by Wayne State University Police, the suspect was identified and arrested on February 26.
The juvenile has now been formally charged with multiple felony counts including armed robbery, unlawful imprisonment, assault with intent to do great bodily harm, and felony firearm possession, according to prosecutors. The teen is not being tried as an adult but has been designated for potential adult sentencing, meaning a judge could impose adult penalties if convicted.
Authorities have not released the suspect’s name because he is a minor. The investigation remains active as the case proceeds through the Wayne County court system.
